Having your period when it's super hot 🌞

See my recommendations

🌞 Having your period in the middle of summer is like wearing wool socks to the beach: bad timing. Sweat, chafing, leaks, sticky pads... while you're just trying to enjoy your summer in a light dress or swimsuit.
But good news: managing your period in 30-degree heat can be learned . And above all, it's easier to cope with with the right reflexes (and the right protection). At Ora, we've prepared our best tips for turning your period into an ally ( not an enemy !). We promise, there's no need to suffer in silence or change your shorts three times a day.

The sauna effect

It's hot, your thighs are sweating (yes, even there), and since you're wearing menstrual protection... it's even worse. Tampons and cups are convenient, but in the summer, the heat can dry out the mucous membrane , especially at the end of your period. The result? Insertion can become quite uncomfortable . Does this happen to you?

  • My tip #1

If you wear menstrual panties, choose light or medium absorbency , the absorption layers will be twice as thin. Seamless panties whose protection does not completely cover the buttocks. It's the best!

Personally, when I have a heavy flow , I prefer to wear less absorbent but thinner panties and change more often if necessary. It's a lesser evil compared to having a boiling butt. 🔥 Like if it's a heatwave and I go outside!

  • Oh and my tip #2

Little revelation: not all fabrics are created equal! Some retain moisture, others let it escape. Like,
    Really!
Good fabric breathes and literally wicks away sweat!
The best ones for summer? Bamboo and TENCEL™, plus they're natural fibers. Recycled nylon is also a good choice. I don't recommend cotton.

I love wearing dresses, but not with a towel

Already, when I wear a dress, I have to be sure that the protection is really absorbent... because if I ever have a leak, it's directly on my thighs . And frankly, there's more pleasant than feeling a warm trickle go down while you pretend to listen to your friend talk about her new boyfriend.

And then with a sanitary pad, I always have this feeling that it doesn't stick to my body well . Like there's a little empty space between it and my vagina— a kind of weird floating that lets moisture through.

Panties to avoid this

To avoid this

I choose menstrual panties that fit my body well and provide good support.
→ Either a high-waisted model
→ Either a low waist with an elastic band at the waist to keep it in place . I recommend the Bamboo Bikini.

Sweat + sticky plastic combo = imminent crisis

Shall we talk about it?
The plastic of disposable towels that rubs, that sticks to damp skin, that
scratch… I once wanted to run to the bathroom just to tear it all out .
(You too? I feel less alone.)

If you prefer disposable pads, tampons, or cups, no shame! But think about where you'll be: access to a toilet? Sink within reach? Clean water?

Ultimately, the most important thing is to know yourself and adapt. You may love your usual haircut, but hate it in the middle of a heatwave. And it's totally OK to change your protection depending on the circumstances. That's what freedom is all about.

Here I summarize all my recommendations for you!

For summer, opt for panties made of bamboo, TENCEL™, or recycled nylon: they breathe and stay dry. Choose high-waisted panties or ones with an elastic band for a good fit, and thin protection that doesn't cover the entire buttocks for extra freshness. With these, you'll be super comfortable—whether at a festival, a wedding, or a hike!
